BEHIND THIS COLD FRONT…AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF VERY COLD CONDITIONS IS EXPECTED. HIGH TEMPERATURES ARE LIKELY TO REMAIN BELOW 20 DEGREES THROUGH FRIDAY…WITH LOW TEMPERATURES REACHING VALUES NEAR OR EVEN BELOW ZERO. HUNDREDS OF OHIO EDISON CUSTOMERS LOST POWER THIS MORNING IN CLARK COUNTY. ACCORDING TO THE OHIO EDISON OUTAGE MAP, 500 TO 1500 CUSTOMERS WERE WITHOUT POWER IN THE AREA OF TITUS AND SOUTH CHARLESTON PIKE WITH ANOTHER 100 TO 500 CUSTOMERS WITHOUT POWER IN THE AREA OF ST. PARIS AND UPPER VALLEY PIKE. THEY DO NOT KNOW YET WHAT LED TO THAT OUTAGE, BUT POWER WAS EXPECTED TO BE RESTORED BY 10:30 THIS MORNING.

BECAUSE OF THE DANGEROUSLY COLD CONDITIONS SEVERAL WARMING CENTERS HAVE OPENED ACROSS THE REGION…A PLACE WHERE PEOPLE CAN GO TO GET WARM AND OUT OF THE COLD. IN DAYTON THESE PLACES INCLUDE THE GREATER DAYTON RECREATION CENTER, 2021 WEST THIRD STREET, THE NORTHWEST RECREATION CENTER, 1600 PRINCETON AVENUE AND THE LOHREY RECREATION CENTER, 2366 GLENARM AVENUE. THEY WILL BE OPEN FROM 6AM-9PM DAILY UNTIL THURDSAY. THE ST. VINCENT DE PAUL WILL OPERATE SHELTERS IN DAYTON FOR WOMEN AND FAMILIES, AT 120 WEST APPLE STREET AND FOR MEN AT 1921 SOUTH GETTYSBURG AVENUE. THE GATEWAY CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST, 205 N. WILLIAMS STREET IN DAYTON WILL OPEN ITS DOORS AS A WARMING CENTER TODAY FROM 2-6PM.

THE GUNMAN SHOT AND KILLED 21 YEAR OLD ANDREW BOLDT, A 21 YEAR OLD SENIOR AT PURDUE WHO WAS FROM WEST BEND, WISCONSIN. POLICE SAID THE SUSPECT APPEARED TO TARGET THE ONE PERSON THEN LEFT THE BUILDING AND WAS ARRESTED BY LOCAL POLICE.
