A WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 10 AM WEDNESDAY. WE WILL HAVE HEAVY SNOW WITH ACCUMULATIONS OF 6-10 INCHES. SNOW WILL DEVELOP ACROSS THE AREA EARLY THIS EVENING AND CONTINUE THROUGH TONIGHT. THE SNOW WILL TAPER OFF WEDNESDAY MORNING…BUT GUSTY NORTH WINDS GUSTING UP TO 25 MPH MAY RESULT IN AREAS OF BLOWING SNOW ON WEDNESDAY.

ATTORNEY GENERAL MIKE DEWINE WILL ALSO BE WORKING WITH OTHER STATES TO LOOK FOR POSSIBLE ANTI-COMPETITIVE ACTIVITIES RELATED TO THE SALE OF PROPANE. DEWINE STATED, “WE WANT TO ASSURE OHIOANS THAT WE WILL CAREFULLY MONITOR REPORTS OF POTENTIAL PRICE GOUGING OR OTHER UNFAIR BUSINESS PRACTICES RELATED TO THE EXTREME COLD.” THE ATTORNEY GENERAL WANTS ALL OHIOANS TO BE SAFE DURING THESE COLD DAYS. ACROSS THE STATE, MORE THAN 1,500 VOLUNTEERS WITH AARP’S TAX-AIDE PROGRAM ARE OFFERING FREE ASSISTANCE FOR THOSE WITH MODERATE TO LOW INCOMES. WAYNE DREIER HAS BEEN AN AARP OHIO TAX-AIDE VOLUNTEER FOR SEVERAL YEARS, AND WHILE HE’S FILED RETURNS FOR COLLEGE-AGED TAXPAYERS, TO THOSE IN THEIR 90’S HE SAYS THEY DO GIVE SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THOSE AGE 60 AND OLDER. VOLUNTEERS PREPARE FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL TAX RETURNS FOR FREE, AND YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE AN AARP MEMBER. LAST YEAR, THEY HELPED MORE THAN 115,000 OHIOANS RECEIVE MORE THAN 63 MILLION DOLLARS IN INCOME TAX REFUNDS. THE PROGRAM WILL RUN THROUGH APRIL 15TH. DREIER SAYS VOLUNTEERS ARE IRS TRAINED AND CERTIFIED, AND AFTER THE RETURN IS PREPARED, ANOTHER VOLUNTEER WILL GO OVER IT WITH A SECOND SET OF EYES. THE PROGRAM IS IN ITS 45TH YEAR AND IS THE NATION’S LARGEST FREE TAX-ASSISTANCE AND PREPARATION SERVICE. TAX-AIDE SITES ARE AVAILABLE IN COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE STATE. THREE INDIVIDUALS, PART OF A LARGE CRIME RING THAT STOLE CREDIT CARDS FROM PURSES AND WALLETS OF UNSUSPECTING EMPLOYEES IN OFFICES FROM CINCINNATI TO YOUNGSTOWN, WERE SENT TO PRISON AS PART OF A STATEWIDE CRIME RING THAT INVESTIGATORS CALLED THE “OFFICE CREEPER CASE”. 55 YEAR OLD LARRY COBB WAS SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS AFTER HE PLED GUILTY TO ENGAGING IN A PATTERN OF CORRUPT ACTIVITY. 37 YEAR OLD KRISTINA M. PETTY WAS SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS IN PRISON AFTER SHE PLED GUILTY TO CONSPIRACY TO ENGAGE IN A PATTERN OF CORRUPT ACTIVITY, ACCORDING TO OHIO ATTORNEY GENERAL MIKE DEWINE. IN DECEMBER, 35 YEAR OLD DESHAWN MITCHELL WAS SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS IN PRISON AND THIS PAST MONTH, 31 YEAR OLD JODIE PETTY WAS SENTENCED TO COMMUNITY CONTROL. JODIE PETTY IS IN PRISON ON RELATED CHARGES IN OTHER COUNTIES. DEWINE SAID THAT COBB AND THE REST SNEAKED INTO OFFICE BUILDINGS TO STEAL ITEMS LEFT UNATTENDED, THEN USED THE STOLEN CREDIT CARDS TO BUY ELECTRONICS, GIFT CARDS AND ITEMS THEY COULD SELL FOR CASH. THE WARREN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE AND 35 LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES ASSISTED IN THE INVESTIGATION.

WILMINGTON PIKE JUST SOUTH OF THE SMITHVILLE ROAD INTERSECTION WAS CLOSED THIS MORNING IN BOTH DIRECTIONS JUST AFTER 3:40 WHEN TWO CARS CRASHED WITH INJURIES. MEDICS WERE SENT TO THE SCENE TO TREAT THE DRIVERS OF BOTH CARS AND ACCORDING TO THE REPORT IN THE DAYTON DAILY NEWS, INJURIES APPEARED TO BE NON-LIFE-THREATENING. THE ROAD WAS CLEARED WITHIN AN HOUR.

ABOUT $1.5 MILLION IN COUNTERFEIT NFL MERCHANDISE WAS SEIZED BY FEDERAL AUTHORITIES AT THE DHL AIR CARGO FACILITY AT THE CINCINNATI/NORTHERN KENTUCKY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT LAST WEEK. HOMELAND SECURITY, CUSTOMS AND THE NFL ANNOUNCED THERE WAS MORE THAN $21.6 MILLION IN SEIZURES OF COUNTERFEIT NFL MERCHANDISE IN NEW YORK LEADING UP TO THE SUPER BOWL. THIS WAS ALL PART OF OPERATION TEAM PLAYER, AN INITIATIVE THAT BEGAN LAST JUNE TARGETING INTERNATIONAL SHIPMENTS OF COUNTERFEIT MERCHANDISE ENTERING THE UNITED STATES.
