TEMPERATURES WILL FALL BELOW ZERO TONIGHT. THE COMBINATION OF THESE TEMPERATURES AND EVEN LIGHT WINDS MAY RESULT IN WIND CHILL READINGS FALLING TO BETWEEN 10 BELOW AND 20 BELOW. TEMPERATURES WILL FALL BELOW ZERO AGAIN TUESDAY NIGHT. THE COMBINATION OF THESE TEMPERATURES AND EVEN LIGHT WINDS MAY RESULT IN WIND CHILL READINGS FALLING TO BETWEEN 10 BELOW AND 15 BELOW. WITH ALL OF THE FREEZING TEMPERATURES AND SEVERE WINTER WEATHER, MOST SCHOOLS HAVE GONE BEYOND THEIR CALAMITY DAYS. LONDON CITY SCHOOLS WILL BE HOLDING CLASSES ON TWO DAYS THAT THEY HAD PLANNED TO HAVE STUDENTS OFF. LONDON CITY SCHOOL STUDENTS WILL NOW ATTEND CLASSES ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 14TH AND MONDAY, FEBRUARY 17TH, TO HELP MAKE UP FOR DAYS MISSED.

CEDARVILLE UNIVERSITY’S SCHOOL OF NURSING WILL BEGIN EDUCATING REGISTERED NURSES WHO DESIRE TO HAVE A BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN NURSING. THE NEW RN TO BSN PROGRAM WILL BEGIN THIS AUGUST AND WILL BE TAUGHT COMPLETELY ONLINE. THE RN TO BSN STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE PROGRAM CAN SELECT FULL OR PART-TIME STATUS. FULL TIME STUDENTS CAN COMPLETE THE PROGRAM IN FIVE CONSECUTIVE SEMESTERS WITH PREREQUISITES INCLUDED. COURSE SEQUENCING IS FLEXIBLE TO SUPPORT THE WORKING REGISTERED NURSE. THE CURRICULUM IS DESIGNED TO FACILITATE THE INTEGRATION OF CORE BIBLICAL CHARACTER QUALITIES WITHIN THE MINISTRY OF NURSING. THIS PROGRAM IS INTENDED FOR NURSES WHO HAVE AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE BUT DESIRE TO COMPLETE THEIR BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN NURSING. THESE STUDENTS WILL COMPLETE 33 HOURS OF NURSING CREDIT, 15 HOURS OF BIBLE, RESULTING IN A BIBLE MINOR, AND 16 HOURS OF GENERAL EDUCATION CREDIT. UP TO 68 CREDIT HOURS FROM THE PRIOR ADN DEGREE WILL BE COUNTED TOWARD THE BSN DEGREE. THERE WERE A NUMBER OF ACCIDENTS IN THE MIAMI VALLEY YESTERDAY MORNING WITH THE ICY, SNOWY CONDITIONS. THOSE SLIDE-OFFS AND COLLISIONS BEGAN AROUND 5:30AM ACCORDING TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES. THE NORTHBOUND LANES OF I-75 WERE CLOSED AROUND 1:45AM WHEN A MULTI-VEHICLE CRASH OCCURRED NEAR MORAINE. A TOTAL OF SIX PEOPLE IN THREE VEHICLES WERE TRANSPORTED TO HOSPITALS. TWO OF THE VICTIMS WERE EXTRICATED BY EMERGENCY CREWS, ACCORDING TO THE DAYTON DAILY NEWS, AND WERE TAKEN BY CAREFLIGHT TO MIAMI VALLEY HOSPITAL. POLICE SAY ALL VICTIMS SUFFERED SERIOUS INJURIES, BUT NONE APPEARED TO BE LIFE-THREATENING.

A MONTGOMERY COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY WAS INJURED AFTER HIS CRUISER WAS HIT BY A JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP SNOW PLOW AT THE INTERSECTION OF INFIRMARY AND DERBY ROADS. THE PLOW DRIVER APPARENTLY SLID THROUGH A STOP SIGN. THE DEPUTY WAS TAKEN TO MIAMI VALLEY HOSPITAL WITH NON-LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES, BUT HIS CRUISER WAS HEAVILY DAMAGED. THE SNOW PLOW DRIVER WAS NOT INJURED.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON, A TEENAGER WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AFTER LOSING CONTROL OF HER VEHICLE ON A SNOWY ROAD IN CLARK COUNTY IN NEW CARLISLE. THE GIRL’S VEHICLE TOOK OUT A ROADSIDE POWER BOX, BRINGING A POWER LINE DOWN OVER THE ROAD. THE GIRL WAS TAKEN TO DAYTON CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL.

A MAN WAS HOSPITALIZED AFTER CRASHING INTO A FIRE ENGINE IN WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP. CENTERVILLE POLICE SAID HE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH INJURIES NOT BELIEVED TO BE LIFE-THREATENING. THAT CRASH HAPPENED AROUND 11AM SUNDAY WHEN THE FIRE TRUCK WAS LEAVING THE FIRE STATION ON CENTERVILLE BUSINESS PARKWAY. THE MEDIC UNIT THAT WAS FOLLOWING THE ENGINE TRANSPORTED THE OTHER DRIVER TO THE HOSPITAL.

FEBRUARY IS HEART MONTH AND OHIOANS ARE ENCOURAGED TO WEAR RED TO SUPPORT AWARENESS ABOUT CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE WHICH IS THE NUMBER 1 KILLER OF WOMEN. BRIANNE HARMAN WITH THE CENTRAL OHIO AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION SAYS THAT FOR WOMEN HEART DISEASE IS THEIR GREATEST THREAT. SHE SAYS IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW THE RISK FACTORS FOR HEART DISEASE, INCLUDING FAMILY HISTORY, HIGH CHOLESTEROL, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND WEIGHT. THOSE RISK FACTORS CAN BE DECREASED THROUGH HEALTHY EATING, REGULAR EXERCISE, NOT SMOKING AND DECREASING STRESS. AN ESTIMATED 43 MILLION WOMEN IN THE U.S. ARE AFFECTED BY HEART DISEASE.

MIAMI COUNTY JAIL OFFICIALS ARE TRYING TO FIND A SOLUTION TO A LACK OF JAIL SPACE FOR FEMALE OFFENDERS. ACCORDING TO THE REPORT IN THE DAYTON DAILY NEWS, WOMEN OFFENDERS ARE INCREASING BECAUSE OF THE GROWTH IN HEROIN USE AND RECURRING STEALING TO SUPPORT THEIR DRUG USE. MANY OF THE WOMEN ARE THERE, ACCORDING TO JUDGE GARY NASAL, BECAUSE OTHER OPTIONS LIKE TREATMENT PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN EXHAUSTED. OFFICIALS ARE CHECKING WITH AREA COUNTIES TO SEE IF THEY HAVE SPACE OR THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT A THIRD POD AT THE COUNTY INCARCERATION FACILITY FOR MINIMUM SECURITY OFFENDERS.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IS CALLING FOR VERY COLD TEMPERATURES OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. LOWS FOR TONIGHT AND TOMORROW NIGHT WILL DROP TO -3 DEGREES WITH WIND CHILL VALUES AS LOW AS -12. WE’LL SEE SOME SUNSHINE TOMORROW WITH HIGHS AROUND 14 AND WIND CHILL VALUES AS LOW AS -13. BY THURSDAY, WE WILL SEE TEMPERATURES RISING TO 35, BUT THEN THEY BACK DOWN INTO THE HIGH 20’S UNTIL SUNDAY. SNOW IS POSSIBLE THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY.
