(Ohio State Highway Patrol,SPRINGFIELD) — A Springfield woman was killed in a crash Sunday afternoon that Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers said was the result of a driver failing to yield the right of way.

The crash happened just before 1 p.m. at the intersection of Folk Ream Road and Johnson Road in Clark County. The highway patrol said a 2008 Chrysler Pacifica was traveling north on Folk Ream when a 2003 Suzuki failed to yield the right of way while turning onto Folk Ream from Johnson.

The passenger in the Suzuki, 36-year-old Dianne Evans of Springfield, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Suzuki was taken to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight. The two people inside the Chrysler were treated at the scene, including a 12-year-old passenger.

The sheriff’s office, German Twp. police and fire and North Hampton rescue crews responded to the scene on Sunday.

(SRN News) VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Benedict XVI announced Monday that he would resign Feb. 28 — the first pontiff to do so in nearly 600 years. The decision sets the stage for a conclave to elect a new pope before the end of March.

The 85-year-old pope announced his decision in Latin during a meeting of Vatican cardinals on Monday morning.

He emphasized that carrying out the duties of being pope — the leader of more than a billion Roman Catholics worldwide — requires “both strength of mind and body.”
