MORE SNOW ON THE WAY?
(FROM DAYTON DAILY NEWS) SOUTHWEST OHIO — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory that will go into effect at 7 p.m. Friday for the counties of Butler, Warren, Clinton, Greene, Montgomery, Preble, Darke, Miami, Clark, Champaign, Logan and Shelby counties in Ohio. Union and Wayne counties in Indiana also are included in the advisory.
The advisory will continue until 1 p.m. Saturday, as the Miami Valley is expected to be impacted by a storm that could leave two to three inches of new snow on the ground, the weather service said. Isolate amounts of around 4 inches could also be expected.
According to the weather service, a Winter Weather Advisory means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties, with snow covered roads and limited visibilities.
The latest batch of snow is expected two days after several areas of the Miami Valley saw around 10 inches of snow fall.
ACCOUNT TO HELP CHILDREN LEFT BEHIND SET UP
SPRINGBORO — One man’s decision to act has given others an opportunity to help the survivors of a Dec. 23 crash that seriously injured four children and killed their parents.
Brian Morris of Springboro said he read the news story on his phone and was so affected by the tragedy, he had to do something about it.
The early morning head-on crash on Interstate 75 near Middletown killed three adults and one child, injured four young children and one adult.
“I’m tired of seeing bad things happen and just thinking, ‘man that’s horrible,’” Morris said. “Not only is it going to be a hard time for them now … the rest of their lives, Christmas is never going to be the same.”
Morris set up an account to support the young survivors.

Judge to rule on oversight of youth prisons State: Federal oversight unnecessary
(FROM COLUMBUS DISPATCH) Ohio officials want to end court monitoring of state youth prisons that has been in place for more than four years.
U.S. District Judge Algenon Marbley held a preliminary hearing yesterday on the state’s request, before scheduling a full hearing in February. The court oversight continues until at least that time.
Attorneys from Attorney General Mike DeWine’s office argued in a motion filed Dec. 7 that the Ohio Department of Youth Services has met all the requirements of a class-action lawsuit that was submitted on behalf of juvenile offenders in state facilities. Monitoring has been under way since May 2008.
