WASHINGTON, D.C. – New federal resources will allow Sinclair Community College to expand its jobs training programs for unemployed workers. U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) funding will provide Sinclair with $6.7 million for unemployed workers to earn certificates and degrees in Information Technology (IT). The resources will help serve workers who lost their jobs due to unfair foreign trade—and qualify for Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA)—and veterans.
Brown said, “Ohioans who work hard and play by the rules should not be left to struggle when they lose their job through no fault of their own.” “This new funding will help Sinclair develop curriculum and hands-on training programs that prepare veterans and jobless workers for careers in the rapidly-growing IT field.”
PIKE TWP. — (FROM NEWS SUN) A 22-year-old New Carlisle man is facing vehicular homicide and vehicular manslaughter charges after being involved in a crash that killed a Tipp City man.
Charges were filed against Joshua Daniel on Monday in Clark County Municipal Court. He hired an attorney, John Butz, to represent him and entered pleas of not guilty with Judge Denise Moody on Tuesday, according to court records.
The crash happened on June 26 at the intersection of U.S. 235 and Ohio 41. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Springfield Post, Daniel was headed east on Ohio 41 and in the process of turning onto northbound U.S. 235 when his SUV collided with a car driven by 49-year-old Tracy Walkup. The crash pushed Walkup’s sedan into a grassy area near the intersection and caused massive damage to both vehicle. Walkup was pronounced dead at the scene, and Daniel refused treatment, the highway patrol said.
SPRINGFIELD — An agreement signed Monday will create the state’s first academy to train local students for high-paying jobs in an in-demand field.
The bioscience academy, which will be in the former South High School, will prepare more students for food, fuel and fiber-related careers, which supporters said have high growth but insufficient student turnout.
Officials say the nonprofit Global Impact STEM Academy is expected to open next school year. It will be one of only five such schools in the country.
