Ryan Freed first got into radio when he failed one of his music classes at Cedarville University and his mother told him to switch majors. Since graduating from CU in 1998 with a degree in communications, he has worked for Cox Broadcasting in Dayton, 880 WRFD in Columbus, and founded WCYC-LP, a low power radio station in London, Ohio which he managed for 4 years. Ryan has been with WEEC since 2006, is married to Kris Freed and they have 6 children.
STCM IT Manager
STCM Office Manager
You may be one of the many listeners that call in to WEEC each day? Ever wonder who the sweet voice on the other end of the phone is? That’s our Receptionist & Office Manager, Cathy Ackley!
When Cathy and her husband Steve moved to Springfield to be closer to their church, she found out that there was a job opening at her favorite Christian radio station, WEEC. Ruth Book, the secretary at the time, was getting ready to have a baby. So, Cathy started there in the summer of 1983. When she left in 1985, because she was going to be a mother herself, little did she know that she would be back at WEEC filling the same position 21 years later!

She went to Liberty University in 2009 and graduated in 2013 with a degree in Graphic Design and a minor in Studio Art.
In October of 2013, God blessed WEEC & WFCJ with the addition of this talented Graphic Designer to our team. Circle of Friends Co-Host / Hospitality Event Organizer
It was one of those “Divine Appointments” that led Sue to find WEEC on her first night in a new home after moving back to the Dayton area. The programming and music helped her through a season of deep grief. Meeting Caroline Mason at an outreach event led to volunteer work at the old Springfield station, which then led to the creations of a pre-recorded hospitality segment called “Confectionately Yours.” This led to on-air guest spots with Caroline & Ryan about hospitality in the Circle of Friends, and this led to the current opportunity to co-host alongside them as need arises.
Sue also organizes hospitality events at Strong Tower Christian Media using her extensive catering & decorating experience. She exclaims, “I never dreamed I’d be part of such a great ministry. I LOVE my radio station!”
McKalia will graduate this May with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting and Digital Media concentrated in Digital Radio and Audio. She has worked part time at WABN in Abingdon, VA and as the Music Director and Station Manager at Resound Radio (resoundradio.com) before starting at WEEC about a year ago as a Weekend Announcer.
STCM Director of Maintenance
Kyle grew up in Dayton around TV and radio via his father, Ken, who does The Afternoon Drive on 93.7 The Source. After several years abroad, he returned to the US to put down roots of his own near family. He has a wonderful wife, two adorable children, and a house that needs as much attention as a family pet. He’s swum in the Arctic Ocean, the Danube River, and the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Hawai’i, but his real interests include following after God, and understanding the Jewish roots of Christianity. Kyle may be behind the scenes, but he is vital to the function of our organization. He serves with joy, and understanding of God’s call on his life.
